BUY ITALIAN VOGUE-BLACK MODEL ISSUE

Hey ya'll...did you hear about the July 2008 issue of Italian Vogue? They used all black models. Folks in the industry were saying that "black" models don't sell very well and that is why we don't see more black women (and I suspect this is the excuse used for all women of color) on the cover of fashion magazines. Did anyone buy the July issue?

after making multiple trips and calls to a newsstand based in harvard square that specializes in distributing international publications the mrs. acquired a copy.

i was not entirely disappointed. the divas were still working it!

i wished i could read italian -- i suspect it would have helped me more fully enjoy the issue.

i was little overwhelmed by the ads — which featured very few WOC. the ads were the predominant feature of the mag.

in the end, the issue seemed like a homage to stephen miesel, a photographer. he shot most of the spreads.

what happened to beverly johnson? she was the singular “IT” black girl in the 70s. seems like status should have earned her at least one page.
