Video posted on Jack and Jill Politics

I know this is long but listen to the whole thing...I love the statement, "It is interesting to me that when white people criticize America, they're critical. When black people criticize America, they're haters of America."...and I love when he tells the reporter that Martin Luther King was more than the one-liner related to judging folks by the content of their character and not the color of their skin....I am less familiar with Louis Farrakhan so I don't know the accuracy of those statements. Nevertheless, I like how the minister challenges the reporter and presents a more nuanced argument about race and racism in America.

i agree! i was eavesdropping as michelle watched the vid, and i thought it was a black man. when i saw it was a white man, i was blown away. he has a clear and nuanced grasp of racism in this country. it is unusual -- except for this one guy i know named kevon -- for white people, however well intentioned and sensitive they may be -- to really GET IT. and this good reverend GETS IT! he's my new boyfriend. :)

I love this guy...the entry on wikipedia about him says that he encouraged his parishioners to buy the time of prostitutes (for those of you who don't know some of them work by the hour)...to give them counseling and job training! Now that is the work that Jesus Christ preached about!! I was getting so angry at the tone of the campaign and how Barack's speech on race was discussed for a few days and then it was back to business as usual...but, this priest has shown me that some folks really do understand the complex nature of race in this country.

Why aren't there more preachers like this guy and Rev. Wright? These are two preachers I would actually get out of bed and go to church on Sunday for! Didn't that reporter sound like the typical ill-informed shlub who think of people (and sadly, primarily people of color) as 1 dimensional and easily classifyable into a tiny box (or should I say, "sound bite"?). It was obvious (to me, at least) that the reporter was simply parroting what he's heard from secondary sources rather than going TO the primary source and figuing things out for himself. After watching this clip (and the PBS interview of Rev. Wright) this evening, I am saddened that the vast majority of Americans will never know the true spirit and Rev. Wright but rather only know him as a series of disjointed clips taken out of context. I feel so ashamed to be an American right now and so ANGRY and FED UP with politics in our country. Hillary should be ashamed of herself for propagating the lies about Sen. Obama and the Rev. Wright...
