Trace your ancestry

With the Cole-Waters traveling abroad I have been thinking a lot about ancestry...Has anyone here traced their ancestry?? Here is a website I am considering using later when I am finally a grown up with a grown up job to trace my ancestry: http://www.africanancestry.com/index.html

I saw something on BET recently about Oprah using a DNA testing service to determine her roots. She felt strongly that she was Yoruba (and the testing service confirmed this). The problem? Another testing service showed something very different. As I understand the challenges with these DNA testing services is that they not built a sufficient prevalence database to confirm one way or the other where anyone's roots. Before you plunk the big bucks down you may want to wait for the technology (and the databases to develop).

good point emmy! I think it also depends on if one is tracing ones maternal or paternal heritage. I saw the one with Skip Gates that showed Oprah was not from the tribe she thought she was from (I don't remember the name of it). It is hard to believe that the databases are not there since slaves were not taken from the entire continent of Africa but certain countries..but perhaps this is not a funding priority so i guess it really is not that hard to believe...
